Program Overview

The Alaska Middle College School offers students an opportunity to transition from high school to college in a program that provides support services and guidance. Students in the degree program usually graduate from high school with 24-40 college credits. The courses that students are approved to take are transferable general education requirements for UAA.

COURSE SCHEDULING:

High school graduation requirements are prioritized in the course selection and registration process.

AMCS students are expected to take their core classes (math, writing, communications, or science) in person at UAA their first semester as an AMCS student. Successful students may request online courses in following semesters.

The Anchorage School District does not pay for students to take summer classes at UAA, physical education (PER) courses, and some electives at UAA. ASD does not cover the costs of many courses through the Community and Technical Education School at UAA.

Student GPA helps determine how many UAA courses a student may take per semester

High School GPA Number of Courses
2.5-2.99  2 UAA courses (6-7 credit hours total)
3.00-3.49 3 UAA courses (9-12 credit hours total)

Students may take a maximum of 16 UAA credits per semester. Students taking a class requiring a lab may take one additional credit of lab.
