Before beginning your application please be sure to have the following things ready: 

1. Separate personal email accounts for student and parent. Students can not proceed with their application if they have the same email address as their parent. ASDK12.net is not a valid email address and students will not be able to continue the application process if they use their asdk12.net account.
2. Student Social Security Number (for the UAA application).

Application process: (In order that students should complete the application)

1.  Fill out the AMCS Application

2.  Apply to UAA as a dual enrollment student.

3. Receive a confirmation email from the AMCS Program with details for the next steps.

4. Receive an email from UAA with your UA ID number.

5. Set up official UAA username and password. (using directions from email from UAA)

6. Take your Writing & Math Placements.

7. After both applications and placements have been evaluated, student will then receive an offer of acceptance to AMCS or a denial of admittance to AMCS.

Confirm that you meet the following requirements:

• You are in 11th or 12th grade (or will be at the beginning of the next semester)
• Your cumulative grade point average is >2.5
• You are on track to graduate
• You have completed English I, English II, Algebra I, & Geometry,
• You do not have serious disciplinary or attendance issues

• The following high school courses are recommended, but are not required to apply: Algebra II, Physical Education, Life Science, Physical Science, World History, Alaska Studies.

The AMCS Program Application submits your application to the Alaska Middle College School staff for review. 

Please complete the application fully.

You will need:

• Current, cumulative GPA
• Personal email address for the student (asdk12.net emails are not a valid/working email address)
• Parent/Guardian email address (cannot be the same as the student)
  • Student and parent should not have the same email address, and students must use their personal email address when applying to both schools. This is important!
• Address & phone number and current school

Fill out and submit the UAA Dual Enrollment Student Application

• Information needed before beginning: Social Security Number
• There is no application fee for applying to UA
• Within 24–48 hours, students should receive an email from UAA containing their new University of Alaska ID number.

The UAA Writing Sample is the assessment used to determine writing course placement for students.  The Writing Sample is evaluated by a board of professors from UAA.  

AMCS students complete the writing sample on their own, at home.  

Students in the AMCS program must place into A192 or A111 or higher to take a UAA writing class through AMCS.

Please review the UAA Writing Sample page thoroughly before completing the writing sample.

To complete the writing sample, students must be able to access their personal email address (this can not be completed on an ASD ChromeBook.)

UAA Writing Sample

UAA uses the ALEKS system to evaluate student's math placement.  

Students log into ALEKS using their UA credentials.  

Students can take the UAA ALEKS on an ASD issued Chromebook.

Students can take the ALEKS up to 5 times in 1 year. The program requires the completion of a 3 hour study module before a retest is permitted. 

*** Please note there is no benefit to placing into a higher level math if you are not ready for it.  The program results are valid and typically place students in the correct math class for their skill level and mathematical knowledge.

UAA ALEKS

Receive a confirmation email and directions to schedule or take UAA Placement Tests.

• Email will be sent after a student is assigned a UA ID number.
• If a student does not receive a confirmation email, please contact sherwood_beth@asdk12.org

Once a student has completed all applications and university placements, we will review the student's transcript and academic record, and then send the student an acceptance offer or a denial of admission. 

Student who are accepted in to AMCS will receive an email with a AMCS Student Contract to sign; once the student and parent signs the contract, they will then receive an email from a UAA Advisor to set up their first advising appointment.

If a student does not receive an acceptance offer, they will receive an email explaining why they did not qualify for AMCS and an outline of any steps they can take to remediate their application and be reevaluated.

Students may have an opportunity to retake placements or remediate any issues in their application/academic record.
